I received an advanced demo of Tangle Tower, courtesy of Virtute. And I have not stopped smiling since booting the game up for the first time. It’s a point-and-click 2D murder mystery detective game, and it is sassy. I have a soft spot for point-and-click games, I love murder mysteries, and I’m enjoying Tangle Tower so much.
Tangle Tower had me from the get-go: I was clicking around, because there’s no hand holding – the cursor doesn’t change if you hover over clickables. So I clicked on a rock, as you do, and:
That was it. In love.
The art is stunning, it’s highly stylised, quirky and beautiful. If SFB Games released some wallpapers, I wouldn’t object (just saying, guys…). The music is also exceptional, again… soundtrack bundle, guys? I need this soundtrack in my life. Please. I’m writing as I play, and I keep the game going in the background so I can continue enjoying the music.
I’m really enjoying the voice acting in this too, particularly that of Sally, whose every word drips with glorious sass.
The game itself is everything I love about any detective game. Hunt for clues, pay attention to every detail and put it all together. So far, the puzzles are fun while also being hilarious. It’s not often you’re asked to think of a logical, yet highly erroneous conclusion. Or is it? Just kidding. Maybe.
The vibe I get from Tangle Tower reminds me of a lot of old school point-and-click games – Broken Sword, The Secret of Monkey Island, etc. You know, that tongue-in-cheek and irreverent attitude.

- What's behind it?
- A room
There’s so much I want to say about what I’ve already seen of this game, but as it’s a detective game, I don’t want to say too much so I don’t spoil anything. All I can say is that it’s beautiful, hilarious, and sassy.
If you’re on steam, go and wishlist it, so you can grab it immediately when it’s released. Now, excuse me as I go buy every SFB Games game I can find.
